AI in Animation: Strengths and Weaknesses

I'm currently using open source AI for a production. From the theme song and backgrounds to character rigs and voice augmentation, AI is integral to the project. I'm also developing my own AI tools. With companies like Runway AI and open-source tools, AI is clearly the future of animation. It might not take over completely, but it will definitely be a game-changer.

Strengths:

- AI improves grammar and readability in business communication, making everything look polished and professional.

- Keeps projects and tasks impeccably organized, so nothing slips through the cracks.

- Summarizes long, dense reads into short, digestible content, saving tons of time.

- Acts as a super-knowledgeable mentor, guiding you through tutorials and offering advice.

- Creates accurate images and videos with remarkable adherence to specific styles and layouts.

- Quickly generates 2D/3D props, text, logos, and more, speeding up the creative process.

- Handles mundane tasks like reading documents, responding to emails, and scheduling, freeing up time for more creative endeavors.

- Automates repetitive tasks, significantly speeding up the animation process.

- Enables experimenting with new styles and techniques, pushing the boundaries of creativity.

Weaknesses (open source):

- AI struggles with creating long, coherent stories and still needs human input to refine and polish.

- Sometimes provides roundabout solutions, requiring human guidance to stay on track.

- Lacks the emotional depth and relatability of human-created art.

- Can be influenced by popular online info, leading to biased outputs.

- Often misses the mark on true creativity and originality, which are hallmarks of human artists.

- May struggle to understand the broader context or nuances of a project.

- Raises ethical concerns about job displacement and the ownership of AI-generated content.

- Over-reliance on AI can hinder skill development in animators and artists, which could have long-term implications.

AI is going to keep changing, making things faster, easier, and more creative. But let's not forget the human touch that brings real emotion and originality to the table. By mixing AI's strengths with our own creativity, we can make some amazing stuff.
