It's only a few months until October... and that's Pumpkin Season!

Every Fall, I take on a handful of select clients (2-3) to transform pumpkins into museum-worthy sculptures. It’s 3D, but with an unforgiving medium - and a live audience.

Over the years, my carvings have garnered awards, captured the attention of Food Network’s Outrageous Pumpkins, and challenged what a pumpkin can be.

If you’re planning an event in Oct, curating an experience, or just want to learn the craft, I’m available for select bookings. Early outreach is recommended (these book fast) - each engagement is tailored and limited.

This is Big Bill from my short "None Shall Pass". The drawings are scanned from my sketchbook. The volumetric shapes and lines are the guides to keep characters consistent when animating. They're like cheat sheets if you need a quick reference, often having formulas like "eyes are one eye length apart" or references like "his arm looks like a ham". This makes animating these characters accurate and easy to remember.

Studying from life - understanding silhouettes, shapes, proportions, angles, motion, expression, and personality, as well as how these elements will be rigged and animated - is essential for strong character design.

This is a simple character sheet for quick reference/example - I just wanted the basics. The layout of these sheets vary depending on the artist and studio - there's no industry standard.

I used to watch cheers as a kid. Not sure why I was interested in a show about a bar. "Norm" was a great character and everyone at that bar loved him.

I'm sad to see George Wendt's passing - I'm sure they'll yell "NORM" when he passes the pearly gates.
